Gen. James H. (Jimmy) Doolittle gained fame in U. S. aviation as a race pilot. In WW II he led the first U. S. air raid on Tokyo for which he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He later served as commander of the 12th Air Force in North Africa, the 15th and 8th Air Forces in Europe, and the 8th Air Force in Okinawa.
